State Personal Income 2013

Average state personal income growth slowed to 2.6 percent in 2013 from 4.2 percent in 2012. State personal income growth ranged from 1.5 percent in West Virginia to 7.6 percent in North Dakota, with every state growing more slowly in 2013 than in 2012. Inflation, as measured by the national price index for personal consumption expenditures, slowed to 1.1 percent in 2013 from 1.8 percent in 2012.

State Personal Income: Third Quarter 2013

spi_1State personal income growth slowed slightly to 1.1 percent in the third quarter of 2013, from 1.2 percent in the second quarter. Growth slowed in 25 states, accelerated in 22, and was unchanged in 3 states and the District of Columbia. Growth across states ranged from 0.4 percent in New Mexico to 1.9 percent in Mississippi. The national price index for personal consumption expenditures increased 0.5 percent in the third quarter after remaining unchanged in the second quarter.spi_2

State Personal Income: Second Quarter 2013

spi_0930_1State personal incomes grew 1.0 percent on average in the second quarter of 2013 after falling 1.3 percent in the first quarter. Personal income growth ranged from 1.5 percent in Florida and Arizona spi_0913_2to –0.7 percent in Nebraska. The national price index for personal consumption expenditures was unchanged in the second quarter after rising 0.3 percent in the first quarter.
